Research and Case Studies in Education

Results in both the USA and UK show that HeartMath skills have improved students’ stress management, interpersonal skills, comfort in the classroom environment, and significantly improved learning, and outcomes under test conditions. Work through HeartMath programs appears to heighten students' energy and motivation, sharpen their work management skills and increase their understanding of the academic subjects studied.

USA

In the USA The Institute of HeartMath provide their own schools based development program - TestEdge™.

Students who participated in the initial TestEdge® program showed a 35% improvement in maths ability and Results indicated significant improvements following the HeartMath program in 17 of the 19 areas of psychosocial functioning measured, including anger management, self-reliance, work management and focus, perceptions of family support/satisfaction and decreases in risky behaviour. The Institute of HeartMath is now engaged in two major research projects funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The first study, which will be completed early in 2006, is a national study designed to improve test scores and academic performance. The second study is designed to increase teacher retention and prevent student dropout.

UK

There are a range of HeartMath initiatives under way that directly address Emotional Literacy and Truancy within the UK School System. As part of the program, a structured support system is being developed for teachers and support staff, so that they also benefit and are able to support the ongoing use of HeartMath skills by the students. Outcomes include dramatic improvement in the SATS pass rate as well as reduction in truancy at various age ranges.

Programs are underway at six primary schools at Portsmouth Portsmouth Discovery Project www.hunterkane.com./case-studies/Discovery.pdf
